"Where I'm From" ©
By Telisa Blackman

I come from an ancient world that's full of queens
where being intellectual's an everyday thing
I measure out my patience like the sands of time
and I'll only give my heart out if our souls align
I reside within a realm often misconstrued
I can't exist within this world's boundaries, choked with reckless rules.
My essence is more complex than ancient hieroglyphics
most don't invest enough time to know me so they miss it
I'm a pearl with flaws, yet a rare little jewel
I'm intelligent, passionate strong and cool.
Dominant persistent, loyal in all things
I flow against the grain I'm a self sufficient being
I've traveled through time, in the wind, as a breeze
I've loved and I've lost, and I've been stretched beyond my means
Yet like water I've melted into shapes that often vary
My presence has been in places where most dare not tarry
I've been a book with many pages unread, and now torn
now certain chapters are off limits, my covers are worn from the storms.
