A Test of Faith ©
By T. Chris McLain
A bright ornge sunset with pink-tinted clouds
The birds flying over the sea
A sky that's so blue that you think to yourself
That God should be charging a fee
The dew on the grass when the sun first comes up
The tingle you feel from a kiss
The smile of a friend and the pout of a child
These are the things that I miss
The leaves on the trees in the fall
Taking my children for walks in the park
And hoping my girlfriend will call
Taking a drive whenever I want
Or wearing the close that I choose
These are the simplest freedoms in life
That you never would think you could lose
Checking the mail and feeding the dog
And going to work everyday
Taking the trash to the curb twice a week
And watching the kids as they play
All of these things are reminders to me
Of freedom I once possessed
I long for them now as I sit in this cell
Praying that I'll pass this test
